RH 9.0 or Mandrake 9.1 pros & cons

I am new to Linux and am looking at installing RH 9.0 or Mandrake 9.1. I would like to hear form those who have used both RH and Mandrake. Can you tell me the pros and cons of each so I can better decide which is best for me. This will be for a home computer, mostly personal use. I am not a computer Guru, but have lots of time using MS programs. Thanks, Al

On the top right corner of the forum, there is a "Search" button. Please use it. These topics have been discussed ad nauseum.

Also, there is a whole forum for linux "Distributions". This thread should have went in there.

This is a large subject......

Personally - if your new to Linux I would just try both - if at all possible dual boot them on there own or even with a Windows OS - you'll learn alot from trying different things out - I wouldnt just stick to one distro if your just starting - in trying a few of them, apart from being interesting, you'll find your own prefernces in time.

You can find out more about Mandrake and Red Hat at Distrowatch - there's also around 140 other Linux distros there to check out.

I just found this site yesterday and spent about an hour yesterday searching through it and have been on the site about 5 plus hours today. Oh, and I have done the search thing that you have mentioned, but not able to find the answer to my questions there. And, if I understand this part correctly, I am posting in the correct thread. Under Linux-Software, it says this forum is for...Want to know which application is best for the job. As I posted I am new to Linux and need to know which Linux Distro is best for my application. I would think that someone who has as many posts as you do would make a real effort to answer the question rather than just send me searching somewhere else for the answer. My first post on this reflector, a simple request for guidance in selecting the best Distro for my application. Do you know how many different Linux Distro's are out there? I have narrowed my choices down to two. I did not think my request was out of line. If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say anything. I see this all the time on reflectors where there is someone who just doesn't have any patents for the new guy. While you may have heard the question over and over and are tired of it. The new guy hasn't and still needs your the help. Thanks for nothing.

I have installed the Red Hat on my spare computer but can't get the modem to work. I am going to buy a new serial port modem from Zoom, should solve that problem. I tried 3 times to install Mandrake, but ran into problems each time. After installed it would lock up after rebooting. I never could get it to run, that's when I installed Red Hat. I am using an older computer (about 175 MHz with 128k ram, 4 Gig HD) to try out the different Linux Distro's. Because I haven't been able to run Mandrake I was hoping to find someone who has used both to get their feedback. Thanks, Al
