REQ:Comparable programs for linux?

I must admit the reason why I haven't made a total switchover to linux is that there aren't comparable windoze programs to the current version to paint shop pro and sony sound forge.Paint Shop Pro has two features(skin smoothing and noise removal) that I cannot find in any graphics linux program. As for sound forge, will hell, all of it. If there are comparable programs for the linux platform that can has these features, can someone tell me about it? I'm so sick and tired of all the freezes, hangs, slowdowns and blue screens of death in this OS called windoze.

Waveforge (sound forge clone) for sound.

Gimp for graphics.
GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything.

Anyone who is familiar with the GNU/Linux operating system has probably seen/used the GIMP at some stage. In terms of compatibility, GIMP can open/manipulate the PhotoShop PSD format and the Paint Shop Pro PSP format.
