Question Removing MySQL4.1 and Installing MySQL4.0.*

Hey team

I've been having problems with MySQL4.1.* and PHPBB2

Apparently they changed the way things work in MySQL4.1 and didn't make it backward compatible! now I can't install PHPBB...

I'm trying to remove MySQL4.1 but it doesn't get rid of everything when it uninstalls?

Does anyone know what directories I should delete to uninstall it manually?

Any help appriciated

Which version of MySQL did you install?
Was it an RPM? a *.tar.gz binary?

It makes a difference since as I recall, Red Hat and SuSe install MySQL in funky places. I don't know about other distributions but you should just be able to remove the /usr/local/mysql directory and the /etc/my.cnf files. Don't forget to remove the boot-time startup script if you use one.

Alternatively you could just download version 4.0.* and install it. I pretty sure it will just overwrite the "bad" version you're trying to get rid of.

I use Debian and the apt-get program

I figured out that doing this removed the conf files

apt-get --purge remove mysql-server

I am now back to MySql 4.0.*
