I used to use Remastersys to make ISOs of my distro, but its designer has apparently stopped working on it; I saw a notice to that effect a while back, and now the page is now nothing but a "not found" notice (http://www.geekconnection.org/remast...ersystool.html). What do you suggest I use instead?

It has no GUI, but Debian Live may be the way you want to go.
Yes, but that's only helpful if I want Debian. (I hope this thread wasn't too old to resurrect.) I use MEPIS and AntiX.
The relative lack of response to my questions like this suggests an obvious dearth of novice-level remastering software that isn't distro-specific. I should have minored in computer science, because in the Linux world, if you aren't a programmer, you can't take full advantage of software freedom, only rely on others who have.

Well you are both actually wrong here. DebianLive has a GUI and also a web interface for those who don't want to use the CLI version. DebianLive will also build other systems such as Mint (LMDE) and Ubuntu. You just have to know what to do to get it to work.
A quick Google found this. I'll let you do the rest of the leg work to see if they still exist or are usable.
Partially. While Debian Live nowadays comes with a GUI and web interface you only get the full functionality when using it in CLI. Having a GUI or web interface is, for example, of no use when you want to chroot into the system to customize it (for example putting files into /etc/skel), the CLI tools have an option for that.
But of course Debian live works for almost any Debian derivative (that includes Ubuntu and derivatives). Actually it is a tool to make Debian/Ubuntu derivatives as live-medium in a simple way.
Latest testing version of antiX does have a remaster script called antix-snapshot-gui.
Can I get this remastering script without downloading an entire new version of antiX? As far as I know, antiX doesn't have its own repository, and antix-snapshot-gui isn't in my MEPIS repositories.
Distribution: antiX using herbstluftwm, fluxbox, IceWM and jwm.

Next version of antiX will have its own (small) repo. I installed antix-snapshot-gui on antiX-M11 in Virtualbox to see if it will work, but it doesn't work properly (I'm trying to fix it so it will work on older antiX versions as well.) It does work perfectly on antiX-12-test2.
anticapitalista, I notice that you are quite an active member of the antiX forum. I would like to get involved with antiX and install the software on an older computer of mine. (I've spent over a month unsuccessfully attempting to install Ubuntu/Lubuntu on that computer and antiX was recommended.)
Problem is, for the last week it has been impossible to register to the antiX forum because the SOLVEmedia confirmation code generator is inoperative. It will not generate a confirmation code puzzle or audio prompt.
I have posted a request with the webmaster (antixstopspam@gmail.com) to correct the problem or at least get back to me to let me know if antiX is still a functioning system/forum/etc. but have gotten no response.
Since you are a registered forum member can you bring this to the attention of the antiX community and let me know if and when new users will be able to register to the site.
I realize that it may be that antiX no longer is distributed or no longer wants a larger user/forum base, and if that is the case, please accept my apology for trying to join. But I would appreciate some sort of reply letting me know what the status of antiX is.

OK, the only thing I would make comment about is you may have been better off PMing anticap but I'm not sure you have that ability yet only being a new member.

Thanks.
With anticapitalista you are addressing your request at the right person, he is not only a member of that forum, but also the (main?) developer of antiX. I sent him a PM to have a look here.
