Question RedHat - Qmail and Sendmail - Question?

Hi,

About to build a RH 7.2 webserver.
I'm going to use qmail instead of sendmail.
Do you know of any problem with this type of build?

For some reason I invision RH being dependant to Sendmail.
Will RH switch it's dependencies to qmail.

Any other comments on your experience with a RH/qmail server is welcome. Especial those who have servers that never have had sendmail on them and have used qmail from the start.

Thanks,

360

I suggest Postfix rather than QMail in your situation. QMail can be a beast to set up ... Postfix provides the same performance as QMail and is easier to setup.

So if you have no specific reason for going with QMail go with Postfix I'd suggest :-)

hmmm... I just spent the last 3 days learning qmail... install and config...

I heard it was much more stable, secure and less resource intensive than sendmail.

Had a little trouble with install but it was my mistakes.

Becuase of time and effort, I'll have to stick with qmail.

Thanks,

Well postfix is as performant as qmail, has much easier configuration and has features qmail doesn't provide without patching :-)

I've studied postfix for 2 hours and set up a pretty secure server with features like smtp auth over tls, etc. It's really easy. All of our servers are now based on Postfix 2.0.14 :-)

I recommend Postfix - but it's your choice :-)
