I am trying to install Redhat 7.1 (from CD) on a machine (Dual Pentium Pro 200/ 3 scsi drives/128mb ram /voodoo 3/Iwill DP6NS mobo). It loves to freeze on the "Running anaconda - please wait ..." screen. I say freeze , nothing seems to happen no matter how long I leave it but the cd rom is just grinding away. I will also occasionally get lockups in different places with the same strange cd activity. Any ideas before I but this machine out of my miserie? I have tried a different cd with the same result. I am THIS close to showing this machine what a .357 mag can do to silicon !!!
Hello,
You can try the following line while U come top the first screen of installtion of RH 7.1 when the system asks you whether to start expert mode , gui mode or text mode of installation.
Just type
linux ide=nodma
on the prompt and follow the installation. This should work 100%.
All the best.
Rajesh.
Unfortunatly I have tried that to.. It's quite disturbing is it not? Again the strangest thing about it , is that when this happens the cd activity light is still kicking off as well as one of my hd acitivty lights. If it is of any help tp anyone , I also do notice that on the screen right before anaconda when it tries to load the ac7XXXX scsi driver it does it twice.
