I'm trying to do a pure new installation of RH8.
But when I get to the installation procedure where the packages are installed, the installation hangs on the Perl-5.8.0-55 package and does not proceed.
What can I do to fix this problem?
I retried the installation but every time hit the same problem.
Can you rule out corrupt CD media?
Did you check the 'md5sum' of the ISO when/if you downloaded it?
Can you try the installation on another machine or different CD-Rom drive?
How about skipping the Perl package during install and downloading it from the net.
this probably isnt your problem, but recently i had the same problem and it was because i just got a new CPU and the default core voltage that was set by my motherboard was wrong for that particular cpu. check and make sure you have the right voltages and that youve got good temps on all your hardware. sometimes overheating can cause instalation errors. one time i had a cracked heat sink and it was giving me errors during installation of win 98.
The CD I'm installing from have been installed on other machines.
So my guess is that there should not be any errors with the CDs.
I can't neither unselect the Perl package, its installed by default, or?
The other thing with CPU temp, I already have RH7.3 working on this machine without any problems.
I doubt that the CPU get overheated everytime at the same package during installations.
One thing I did once was, I burnt an ISO on a 32x rated CD-R at 48x. Some drives read it perfectly others spit the dummy big time. Also can you swap out the CD drive for another to see if the same problem occurs?
