Try logging in to the box, issue the command "mouseconfig" ( I think RH 9 has it ). Anyway, make sure you select the serial mouse instead of a PS/2 mouse or some like.

Worse comes to worse and that doesn't work, post your Section for your Mouse device, it'll be in /etc/X11/XF86Config Will look something like this:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection

hehe i have a serial mouse when I installed redhat 9. I remembered that my mouse is not working at all in linux box.
My serial mouse use com2 and then first i thought is was a microsoft serial mouse, but try the "generic" because i saw a article, all serial mouse go to generic section. Well go try it.
It is work for me, but i am not sure okay for u.

Regard
