There are numerous choices available to partition you hard drive, I would recommend using druid partitioning tool available during installation of linux, but first you'll need to free some space on HD, you can create a partition from free space available on your system, and then use druid to create llinux partitions on this partition. You wuold need / and optionally swap partitions for linux, you might create additional partitions for /home, /usr, but it's all depends on your needs and space available. Keep in mind if you decide to create /usr it should be large enough to hold all packages you want to install (this is also relevent for / if it is going to be the only partition with or without /home and swap)
