RealPlayer Files???

Hi,

Just installed RealPlayer 10, plays music files, but when I try to play Video files (Mpeg or .AVI) message appears saying>

"The player does not have the capabilities to play back this content"

Then there is the option of checking for updates!

Do I need to download certain files to play back video content?

Thanks

Jason

Why don't you just use Mplayer/Xine/Kaffeine to play your MPG/AVI movies?

I'm sure there are some Real Player codecs that can play MPG/AVI formats, but I do not know of any off the top of my head.

hi,

Thanks for swift reply! You mention Xine? How do I go about starting up Xine in the run command? As you can see, I'm pretty new to Linux!

Thanks

Jason

As root, do "urpmi xine".

[root@localhost jason]# urpmi xine
The following packages contain xine:
gxine
libxine1
libxine1-devel
oxine
pyxine
xine-aa
xine-arts
xine-dxr3
xine-esd
xine-faad
xine-flac
xine-gnomevfs
xine-plugins
xine-polyp
xine-skins
xine-smb
xine-vcdx
xine-win32
xinetd
[root@localhost jason]#

What do I do next?

Cheers

Jason

Try using Kaffeine. It uses xine (I think), which is already on your system.
Run the command "kaffeine", as it comes default with a normal mandrake installation. If not, run "urpmi kaffeine" as root.
