Really weird behavior from LIRC

I've been having trouble getting LIRC working on Ubuntu 12.04 for quite a while now. Everything seems like it should work fine, irw shows the proper keys being pressed, but when it comes to my configurations it doesn't seem to actually use what I have set for each individual application.

However, it still works in various ways... For example, the Pause button will pause most media. The arrow keys function as the left, right and up and down arrow keys, and the "Enter" buttton sends the "Enter" key. Oddly enough the volume buttons controls the global volume through the XFCE panel.

I'm really unsure just what is going on. I had it configured the exact same way I'm trying it now on my old 8.04 install and never ran into an issue like this.
