Real Player Gold/Mplayer Conflict?
I installed Real Player. I copied the nphelix.so file in the mozilla and firefox plugins directory and the nphelix.xpt file in the components directory of both browsers, as instructed at http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html. The problem is when I go to real.player.com it doesn't recognize the plug-ins, it opens a download box and asks what program I want to run it with. They don't work. They also don't show up like the mplayer and flash plugins in firefox/preferences/downloads/plug-ins . I have used Real Player Gold before and it worked fine. The only thing I did different this time is That I installed the Mplayer plug-in. Are there any known conflicts between the two plug-ins?
Gave it a try. Nothing. I am going to uninstall Real Player. I installed it from a cd I burnt the rpm on. So I am going to download it again and re-install it and see if that does the trick. If not I will un-install it and try it from source. I tried it a few different ways including the one you suggested and nothing. Also I should have said there are two things I did different this time. I not only have mplayer installed but I just remembered that I have yahoo installed also, not to mention Ogle but I think I had Ogle installed before. Not sure why this isn't working. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Nope. Didn't work. I downloaded the RealPlayer10GOLD.bin this time. I changed the permissions so it would be executable. It installed fine. I have Firefox in my /home/webwolf/programs directory. So I decided to put Real Player in its own Directory in /home/webwolf/programs. I tried linking, copying nphelix.so and nphelix.xpt to the plugins directory in Firefox and Mozilla, then I tried nphelix.so in the plugins directory of both and nphelix in the components directory of both, still nothing. I don't have any other version of Real Player installed. The mplayer plug-in for Mozilla has the Real Player codes off by default and I didn't change that. I wonder what I am missing. If it comes down to it I can always install Real Player 8, I never had any problems with that one. Rather have the new one though. I guess I could use the old one for the browser plug-in, unless it is something newer that is needed for the the Real Player media. Then I can use the download manager for that and open it with Real Player 10. Rather use Real Player 10 for all of it, lol.

I gave Real Player 8 a try. It has worked before, but doesn't work now. The only thing different is that I have the Mplayer plug-in installed. I could uninstall it to make sure but I have it set up the way I want to. So I can't say it is the Mplayer plug-in for sure. So I think I will just use Mplayer for .rm, etc. files and the ones that don't work well with it I will open up in Real Player 10. I would be interested to see if anyone else has this problem.... Or is it just me... lol.
I have used both mplayer plugin and realplayer plugins and did not experience any problems. You may as well try uninstalling the Mplayer plugin because it may be causing a conflict on your system.

Yes. But it downloads the file, Real Player starts and it then plays it. I wanted to have it as a plug-in instead. Like Mplayer. It will play it right in the browser.

I thought about something. The Mplayer I am using came with Mandrake 10.0 official. Maybe I should un-install it, and re-install source and then the plug-in. Then give Real Player a try.
I thought of un-installing Mplayer for good. But I like Mplayer, it works with Quick Time, Microsoft, etc. It also supports Real media. So Until I get a chance to re-install it from source I think I will just use Mplayer the way it is for now and get it set up to work in place of Real Player . I might try it on my other computer once I get two other computers set up right. That way I can experiment a little more without messing this one up, lol.

Solved the problem. I installed the .xpt and .so files where they needed to be, then I moved my mozplugger.so from the mozilla directory to my /firefox/plugins directory. Problem solved. I also indirectly solved another problem I WAS having a problem getting midi to play in my browser, lol. All seems to work now.
Thanks for helping me trouble shoot this everyone.
Ah, you should have mentioned mozplugger. It's more of a pain than it's worth coz it interferes with other plugins in my own experience. Anyway, I'm happy you finally sorted out your problem.

Thanks.
I would have mentioned it if I knew it was installed, lol. I installed all that came with Mozilla(from the mandrake disks,) but I thought I didn't install Mozilla plugger. I found out when I went to install Plugger 5.1.3 and it put an .so file into the mozilla directory, not the working mozilla-1.6 directory but a directory that was empty except for a plugin folder with only that in it. Needless to say the Plugger didn't work with anything except midi files. I un-installed it and moved the mozilla plugger to the firefox directory. Now if I have anymore problems with browser plug-ins I will know where to start looking. I may un-install the Mozilla plug-in and use Plugger 5.1.3.
