re-package installed software back to an RPM

I am in a situation where I have some old programs installed on some old servers. They were installed by RPM, and the original RPMS are gone.

Is there a way to re-build an install RPM for those programs? Since RPM installed it, I'm guessing that it kept track of what was done,.. so is there something that is able to take all the files and changes and reconstitute an RPM out of them...?

Hi,

Yes it is possible...provided you can gather all the nuts-n-bolts that go with the software. Then, once listed, you can build an rpm...

But you'll have (and I repeat this) find out what the software needs...and get everything packed in...that alone will be the challenge...

Good luck with that one.

Thor
Edit & Update : thanks for that!
(I use Arch, no RPM in my universe...)
