Question about WINE and XCDROAST.......

hey there, i am pretty much a newbi when it comes to linux. I was just wondering what exactly wine is and how i would go about using it. I am dual booting windows xp pro and redhat 8. I am completely addicted to linux now, but still would like to use some programs on windows, like microsoft office. Is this possible with wine and if so, how would i go about doing it.

secondly, i have xcdroast installed as my burning software. I have a LG 52X32X52X cdrw/dvd combo drive and am having some trouble using the software. I was just wondering if there was any better software out there for burning cd's. i have tried the gtoast as well and didn't like that either.

thx in advance for the help,

wine enables you to run native windows applications in linux. You can find out more if you check out their homepage at www.winehq.com

And xcdroast is just a gui frontend mainly for cdrecord as are most of the others. It pretty much is the best or most used. Some of the others I know of are outdated. What kind of problems are you having? If you share the details, maybe there is a work around for it we can help with.

ok, i have wine installed, now what. I have read most of the instructions, but i can't really make heads or tails out if them. wine created the windows, system, system32 directories and a few more, but what now.

i have windows xp installed on my other partition and have the drive mounted to /mnt/windows, is there any way i can use that windows file structure to use wine?

any help here would be greatly appreciated.

thx again,
