A long time ago I programmed some data logging software in QBasic. I now have a laptop to run Linux on and it will be used for two things (not simultaneosly). A) Recording MP3's from external inputs (mixers etc) and B) Data logging station.
The data loggin software was ritten in QBasic and I was wondering is there a compatable linux solution that would need no or minimal changes to the original code??
It's an emulator that comes with the FreeDOS kernel and many FreeDOS utilities, along with some GNU tools. The bare dosemu includes bwbasic - it might run straight away, or require a little tinkering. The full FreeDOS distro comes with a couple of Basic interpreters and a compiler, but not QBasic - that's a proprietary Microsoft implementation. But if you've got it, you could just copy the file in and it should run. It's not like WINE, which is tricky at best. Dosemu's pretty good. Not perfect, but good.
Actually using "xdosemu" in xwindows instead of "dosemu" from the terminal will allow you to run Qbasic just fine. I've tested it with Qbasic versions 1.1, 4.5, and 7.1. Qbasic does not come with dosemu but you can download it from several different web sites that I've found. http://qb4all.com/files/viewfiles.asp?catid=03
Try that one.
We are currently porting our code from QuickBasic (QBasics bif brother) and PDS The Pro version of the before mentioned to XBasic from xbasic.org I believe you'll find XBasic to your liking...
I remember a similar topic discussing exactly this subject. It at least contains posts from people who know Linux native BASIC languages. (at least, I thought I remembered it that way)
Try searching for it, you might get better results
I shouted 'Chipmunk Basic' in that thread, and I will do the same here.
