Problems with KDE 3.4 or Mandriva Powerpack

I just installed it last night (fresh drive) and is running much slower then Mandrake 10.0 that I was running before. I am not sure the problem is with the OS, KDE or kernel (2.6.12-12mdksmp). At one point the whole OS stopped and I could see KDEd taking more of the CPU cycles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you really need to have the smp kernel (multi processor) ???

If not, maybe you should re-install with just the normal one (non-smp).

That might help.
