Are you using LILO or Grub? With LILO you'll have to have XP in the first partition for it to boot, I'm told Grub can fool Windows to boot from any partition, but I've never tried it myself. If you're using LILO open up the Boot Configurer for LILO and have it check the current settings to make sure they're correct, or just have it "Probe" to make sure your settings are correct. Also, you could copy and paste your lilo config in /etc/lilo.conf here for us to look at.

what i have heard is that you have to have grub come up, then it will send you to the boot.ini file. if you must get into xp, make a boot disk in linux, then boot off the xp cd and there is like repair option in menu, can't totally recall now, but need to get to command prompt. run fixmbr command. or if you have old windows 95 or 98 boot disk, boot to floppy and run fdisk /mbr command.

Hey Guys I'm having a similar problem to inward_eye

I have XP installed on my primary hard drive (C)
And Mandrake Linux installed on what would be (D)
When I install Mandrake with LILO i cannot boot eithier OS.
The same happends with GRUB, neithier will boot.

This happend before with RedHat 7.3 and RedHat 9.

Currently I'm booting Linux off a floppy disk - the same as I've always had to do.

I've tried installing both bootloaders on MBR and thier own hard drives.

Can anyone help??
Thanks.
