problem with yum

Hi all,
I just found yum doesn't work on my FC3 machine. The error message is the following
Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix>
Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix>
'import site' failed: use -v for traceback
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", lin 6, in ?
import yummain
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/yummain.py", line 18, in ?
import os
ImportError: No module named os

I thought it was related to python which I reinstalled for some reason I don't remember
I reinstalled python and yum again, but with no avail.

I appreciate your time and suggestion on this.

For python, I installed it from source. For yum, from rpm. It seems there are multiple pythons in my system and I don't know how to remove the useless ones. Basically, I don't know the exact meaning of the error message. Thanks.
