I am attempting to install lispbox so I can start learning to program in lisp. When I attempt to run the setup executable, I get this:
debian-14:/home/me/lispbox# ./setup
Install in directory (default /root/LispBox): :/home/me/
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
../src/lndir: destination already exists: /home/me/lispbox/clisp-2.33/src/berkeley-db
./setup: line 26: ./makemake: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `config.lisp'. Stop.
I checked and I have the gcc package installed. How can I fix this?
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no <--- thats the problem
in your synaptics package manager install the programs for compiling gcc g++ automake autoconfig. then go back try to build the program. after you have met all the depenencies then you can go on to make the program. you are build ifrom souce build then install.
pclinux is a live distro that has none of the programs to build programs that is why you must load the pclinux have a fast internet connection and do the big up date and install ok good luck make sure you have the kernel source installed also. good luck. pclinux is good stuff but the cdrom is only a minimal install.
In trying to solve this problem I think I've tracked down another one that I have no idea how to resolve.
So I go into Debian Synaptic Package Manager and find the package g++, which I want to install. Here are the error messages that I get
g++:
Depends: g++-4.1 but it is not going to be installed
So I go to g++-4.1...
g++-4.1:
Depends: libstdc++6-4.1-dev but it is not going to be installed
And then on to libstdc++6-4.1-dev...
libstdc++6-4.1-dev:
Depends: g++-4.1 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libc6-dev but it is not going to be installe
Ok, time to check out libc6-dev...
libc6-dev:
Depends: libc6 (=2.3.6.ds1-13etch5) but 2.7-5 is to be installed
This is where the trail ends. I have libc6 installed (version 2.7-5). Apparently libc6-div needs libc6 version 2.3.6?? How can I go about fixing this? Remember, the original goal was to simply install the g++ compiler.
Sorry for my lack of understanding. Basically, from what facts I can hack together, I would venture to guess that this problem came from me using developmental repositories for my packages, and now I've run into a package (libc6-dev)that depends on a non developmental package (libc6 2.3.6). Is this correct?
