printing in firefox 1.0.7
Hi all. Trolled a little to find an answer and bookmarked a few things to try, but in the meantime, I wanted to report a printing issue with Firefox 1.0.7 on SuSE 9.3.
My client has cups running, and has a STAR TSP receipt printer that he wants to print to from his accounting software run through Firefox. While I was there, I tried OpenOffice, some KDE text editor, I even ran "echo 'ian was here' | lpr" and they all printed fine. Load up firefox and click print - nada.
While at his office, I tried to use the "kprinter --stdin" trick that others have reported using but there are two issues with that:
1. the printer doesn't show up in the drop-down of the printers. I've added two other identical printer definitions for the printer (and all of them show up in OpenOffice, etc), but this kprinter application won't give me any of the actual printer devices in order to try to print.
2. My client has a mostly-undocumented 'feature' enabled in Firefox that would normally supress the print dialog box, and this has worked fine when he runs Windoze, and I've tested this on my own workstations. But on his POS terminal with the receipt printer, the print job just goes >poof< and never prints.
I'd love any feedback, things I can try, etc.
