PostNuke install, magic quotes problem

I am trying to install PostNuke .75 and getting an error at the install screen stating that:
Quote:
Not Good! magic_quotes_gpc is Off
This can often be fixed using a .htaccess file with the following line:
php_flag magic_quotes_gpc _on
"not sure this line is part of the error or what?" CHMOD Check
Anyways how would I go about turning "magic quotes" On, from a noobish standpoint.

Thanks for your help, I have googled to heck and back and just cant find a straight answer.

Install is on Fedora Core 3, all updates, with server install.
