Port Forwarding SuSE 9.0

I would like to be able to port forward from my my machine, I have an ethernet card
and a zoom adsl X3 modem, and my ISP gives me an IP address, say 123.456.789.01.

If I go to the modem configuration I see

ID=1, public port=23, private port=23 type=TCP, IP=10.0.0.20
ID=2, public port=80, private port=80 type=TCP, IP=10.0.0.20

If I do an "ifconfig" I get inet=10.0.0.n where n is a different number falling between
3 and 16, which I think is the number that my modem assigns to my ethernet card.

I suppose I might, say for being able to ftp to my machine

ID=3, public port=23, private port=23 type=TCP, IP=123.456.789.01

(Or do I change the 10.0.020?)

Now, here is the crunch, the modem's booklet says

For SuSE

edit the /etc/rc.config so that
NETCONFIG="_0"
NETDEV_0="eth0"
IFCONFIG="dhcpclient"

but in SuSE 9.0 there is no such rc.config file. The manufacturer's helpline people
have no idea about SuSE 9.0 either.

Any ideas anyone?
