Exclamation Please help newbie with X server config error

Hi, folks!

I just installed Mandriva 10. I can't get a desktop of any flavor to start up; my X server is screwed up, apparently. Here are my error messages:

"execve failed for /etc/X11/X errno 2"
"xinit: server error"

I am given to understand that this has to do with the path variable, but though (after searching these forums) I tried to add the xinit command to my profile script, I'm not sure it worked, or if that's even the problem. Is there a way to tell Mandriva to go get new X server binaries through ftp'ing or something? What should I do?

Thanks for your help!
