I just tried Pan on another distro (I normally use Slackware), and I didn't have this problem. That doesn't necessarily mean the problem is distro-specific, but it may be related to some conflict that I've introduced on my Slackware system.
I'll wait a while and see if anyone in the non-Slackware world has this same problem, then I'll move my inquiry over to the Slackware forum.
Has anyone else experienced this problem using Pan? Thanks.
Hi,
I regulary use Pan (& sometimes KNode) for Text-NGs, and haven't experienced this sorta bug. I use these Apps on a Mandrake 10.1 Box... together with klibido & BNR2 for Binaries. Might indeed be a Slack-spec. prob.
Greats, x86h ;)
Thanks for your reply, x86havoc. There's some evidence that the problem is related to having gtk+ 2.6.1 installed rather than gtk+ 2.4.3. When I downgraded from gtk+ 2.6.1 to 2.4.3, my Pan reply problem went away.
Hi,
Fwiw I still have gtk+ 2.4.0 installed.
You could contact the Pan-Team, if it's an unusual bug?!
I'll upgrade my gtk+ in a couple of days, so I'll see myself :))
Take care, x86h ;)
This problem is apparently due to a conflict with gtk+ 2.6.x. A patch is available, and it fixed my problem (I went ahead and compiled gtk+ 2.6.1 with the patch). However, I think a number of distros are already including patched gtk+ 2.6.x, including Mandrake and, soon, Slackware (10.1).
The problem seems to affect some versions of Evolution, as well as Pan, so other apps may be affected, as well. Duncan on the pan-users mailing list directed me to this patch, but I think there's been a buzz about it for a couple of week.
