It's not important. People's thoughts don't make your work done - it's you who do it. Since you're using Ubuntu, it's as easy as using Add/Remove tool to install those two applications, launch them and try them out, and either keep them or if you don't like them, remove.
If you pick up your tools based on what people say about them, and not based on how well you work with them, you're on the wrong road.
