openSUSE 11.4 - running Avast! antivirus as su

I installed the .rpm version of Avast! antivirus with no problems and even installed it using zypper, which requires su to install. I had presumed that this way would obviate an errors from a user-only install.

However, when scanning, I see that certain files are denied permission to open which makes scanning a useless endeavor. I presume that this is because Avast! is running as a user only and not su.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

If you run the scan as normal user, that is to be expected. There are some files that normal user may not read, and there are some directories that the normal user may not enter (and subsequently read the files in that directory).

Su to root and run the scan and the errors should go away.

Hi bigrigdriver -

Yes, I had assumed that. So I merely started it in the terminal as su and it came up as su.

Only problem I have with this Avast! has been the reluctance, from time to time, for the program to update itself when asked.

I get all but 1350 bytes of the upgrade defs...then it works Ok for a while. I think that I'll go back to Clamav.

Thanks
