OpenOffice 2.2 - Rotation of database fields in Writer

Currently I'm using OpenOffice version 2.2 and text boxes to rotate text.
This works OK. Problems arise when I need to rotate database fields.

Fields are not allowed to be inserted in the text boxes necessary to facilitate rotations. I've checked the version 2.3 & 2.4 updates but I do not see any change to this restriction.

I've tried clumsy rearrangements of portrait/landscape, laborious second overprinting runs but with large files it means car trips with disks, time delays and other complexities...

Has anybody a workaround to enable the rotation of database fields?

Thanks for reading me, Phidor.
