OpenGL Installation

Hey guys and girls,
I'm running debian linux with an nvidia GPU. I have the mesa GL drivers installed, but i can't seem to get any OpenGL apps to work.

Am I just not doing something?

well, the first place to start is with

Code:
glxinfo | grep direct
from a console session within X (konsole in kde will do fine) and make sure the output is similar to

Code:
zidane@bluemist:~$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes
zidane@bluemist:~$
if you get that output, then opengl should be running fine, you can check it with glxgears.

if, however, you get something else, theres a strong chance you just havent enabled direct rendering.

check in your xorg log (if your using xfree86, its basicly the same steps) for lines like:

Code:
(II) R128(0): Direct rendering enabled
if you dont see it in there, or its complaining about it, then its most likely its just not enabled in your xorg config. to enable it in your xorg config, see section 6 of this page http://dri.sourceforge.net/doc/DRIuserguide.html

with a little luck, you may just have not turned it on, or set its permissions section in your xorg. i have done the same thing myself.

oh, and as an afterthought, you might also want to check that x.org is running with the right drivers etc (nv for nvidia, iirc).

Thanks for your reply, but it seems that the problem was that I didnt have my nvidia GPU properly installed.
