I have an ATI Rage 128 Pro AGP graphics card. I've used linux for a couple years, but recently, on this installation of linux (gentoo), as well as my last installation of gentoo (I had formatted to try something else, then put gentoo back on it later) I have been having a problem with what I think is OpenGL. In certain programs, such as tuxracer, and certain screensavers in xscreensaver I will get some type of bug where an object is drawn (such as tux in tux racer for example), and then out to the left of the object are many little lines going all the way to the corner of the window/screen. It's puzzling, because I know my hardware is good, and this USED to work on a previous linux instllation (of gentoo also, but of an older version), and OpenGL and all other 3D things were fine and didn't exibit this bug, but now it seems they do. I also tried switching to the ati driver for xorg.conf, but that doesn't help any. Could somebody please tell me what might be going on and inform me as to how I could go about fixing this? It gets quite annoying. Other then that, 3D things seem to run fine.
So both the ati and the open-source radeon driver exhibit the same behavior? Have you tried a LiveCD (like the Knoppix-Games cd) or anything to test tuxracer under for the behavior?
Yes, both the ati and r128 drivers do this. I have not yet tried using something like knoppix to test, but now that you mention it, I think I might try that and get back to you with the results.
