Hello!

I've been building a working environment in openbox, but cannot get the trash can to display in PCManFM or Thunar under Openbox. They both work fine under KDE and XFCE. Dolphin 21.12.1 is working fine in Openbox.

Here are the versions of software used:

Slackware-15.0 x86_64
kernel-5.15.188
openbox-3.6.1
gvfs-1.48.1
PCManFM-14.0
Thunar-4.16.10

In the affected file managers, the trash can is enabled in the preferences, but is not displayed in the side pane when running in Openbox. There are no errors in PCManFM, but Thunar displays the error, "Missing dependencies - It looks like gvfs is not available." in the the advanced preference pane. I have checked and gvfs is installed. I've also checked and dbus is running.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

Trash can is at ~/.local/share/Trash

To your .xinitrc
How about your icon theme?

Right-clicking files and selecting "Move to trash" always worked and I could go to ~/.local/share/Trash to empty the trash. It's just the option never appeared in the pcmanfm sidebar even when enabled in preferences.

I ran dbus-launch pcmanfm and voila! I now had the trash can option as well as my other volumes which had also been AWOL. This gave me the idea to add dbus-launch pcmanfm --daemon-mode & to my openbox autostart and the issue is resolved.

As for .xinitrc, there is /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc/.xinitrc.openbox

I didn't see exec ck-launch-session openbox-session there, but the last few lines are:

if [ -z "$DESKTOP_SESSION" ]; then
exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session openbox
else
exec openbox
fi

Where would I add the line exec ck-launch-session openbox-session into .xinitrc.openbox?

In any case it's working now, I just want to be sure I'm doing it right and understanding the process. Thanks for getting me on the right track.
