open multiple .png files at once

Hi guys,

I have many .png files in a directory. I want to open them at once. Because, these images are some statistics diagram. It would be better if I could open all the images in the same window, so that I can view and compare them together.

I tried "display", I can only open them one by one with "display".

Anyone has some suggestion for the software to do what I want?

Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Hello,

What distro are you running? I know for distros that have gnome installed, like ubuntu, I think you can use eog, which is the default picture viewer, to pull them up from the command line. You also have gpiciew and shotwell, along with gimp, depending on how far you really want to take this.

Cheers,

Josh

Thanks Josh,

I use ubuntu 10.04. I tested each of them. All work well. Although gimp is bit heavy, it can do more editing. And most important, except gimp, I still need to click arrow key to view next pic. Do I have some lighter software other than gimp can view all images AT ONCE??? I mean, I can see all images at the same time and do not need to click arrow key to view next one.

Thanks again for your help!

I have mostly replaced using Imagemagick with G'mic
it also displays images ( without calling "display")
for a folder ( too many images WILL be a problem)
but for 4 to 6

Code:
gmic *.png
all of them will open ( previews) click on one
to go back click again

I would use:
Code:
montage -geometry +0+0 *.JPG montage.jpg
gnome-open montage.jpg
You may end up with a very big file though. So you may have to tune this a bit
