Unhappy Open Motif on Fedore Core 8

I have a program that won't configure when I type ./configure, it always complains about me needing to install X and Motif before continuing.

I can not legally connect this machine to the internet so I need to download the files, and transport them to the machine. So commands that pull stuff off the internet isn't an option for me.

I downloaded the files at this site...
http://www.ist-inc.com/DOWNLOADS/motif_download.html
files: openmotif-2.1.32-2_IST.i586.rpm, and also have one named openmotif-2.2.32-2_IST.i386.rpm.

Those won't install either though complaining about dependencies. libXp.so.6 is needed... I have a feeling I'm going round and round for no reason.

So my question is, can you even run Open Motif on Fedora Core 8? I know it was dropped on fedora core 6. Any suggestions on what I can do?

You're gonna need to install a ton of stuff to satisfy the dependencies of X and motif.

You say the machine can't connect to the net, but can you put a CD/DVD in it that contains all the F8 packages (i.e. a F8 install CD/DVD)? You could then add that media as a repo in yum and then just do a "yum install <whatever>"

AFAIK Fedora doesn't include packages for motif, instead they use lesstif:

http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/fedora/....fc8.i386.html

As you can see though, lesstif itself also has dependencies which probably aren't installed on a machine that has no X installed.

Bummer

As a test I'm trying to install open motif on ubuntu even with an internet connection and am having no luck either. I picked all the packages in synaptic that have to do with motif. Still getting the same message about X and Motif. Thanks for your help, but I guess we'll say heck with it and stick with Red hat enterprise.

Yum

You could then add that media as a repo in yum and then just do a "yum install <whatever>"

Can you explain a little bit more on how to add it as a repo? I put the CD in and tried the "Add/Remove" dropdown but it won't let me open that since I'm not on the internet. I was hoping I could just "Add CD" in that menu but it won't let me do that. How do I get Yum?

(I might've got by the Motif problem, I just took out the "exit 1;" in the script when it finds out that Motif doesn't exist. Now it's complaining about c++ or g++ libraries. Maybe lesstiff or whatever fedora has will be enough to fool it)
