problem is if i do this, i have no monitor and can only run X via ssh -X as i do not really have a monitor connected to it other then my TV. this is my media box for playing the family DVDs or movie files.
Quote:
Now see if your system will run X. If it does, then you can try adding the options back one at a time until it no longer works.
If it doesn't, change this line:
Option "NvAGP" "2"
to this:
Option "NvAGP" "1"
The AGP options are as follows:
0 : disable AGP
1 : use NVIDIA's internal AGP support, if possible
2 : use AGPGART if possible
3 : use any agp support (try AGPGART, then NVIDIA's AGP)
It is possible you have a problem with AGPGART.
I'd start with that font line though; that is consistent with the errors you are receiving and others have encountered the same problem.
ill start with the font line and see if that helps. only reason running NvAGP of 2 instead of 1 is i got better performance on the 3D in other computers with that option. i will change that to 1 just to test it after i do the fonts.
ok commented out the font path and still getting the following error:

maybe someone can help translate enough of this to find out what is going on.
well here are some of the steps i took and i have no clue what fixed it, but i have it up and running atm.
1. rebooted back into the older 2.4.27 kernel. one that was custom compiled by my LUG (they did the work) for my chipset on that MB so my DMA would work propperly on all devices.
2. apt-get remove kernel-image-2.6.11-1-k7
3. rm linux from /usr/src
4. ln -s /usr/src/kernel-headers-2.4.27 linux
5. reboot again to make sure all was clean
6. reinstalled Nvidia drivers (again)
7. replaced my XF85Config-4 back to the way it was before.
at this point i still had no X, but i could get to the point were when trying to startx or xdm i could now at least get the Nvidia splash screen so i was making progress.
could not kill xdm completely so i did the following:
1. init 2
2. runlevel (reported back as 3 2) hmm wanted runlevel 3 dead.
3. init 2 again
4. loged out of all terminals but the 1 i was working in.
5. init 2 yet again. was still getting 3 2 as report back from runlevel.
6. init 1
hit ctrl+d when prompted. system restarted in runlevel 3 with xdm coming up and i have tested both running a movie via my LAN and via DVD...
all works now.
thank you everyone for the help, i have no clue what i did that got it working again, but until i completely rebuild that computer from scratch it is going to stay running 2.4.27 kernel as it works.
