I know all about the patent issues with rh but i dont understand why when running mandrake 9 i had complete control of the ntfs drive no problems read and write, and the redhat ntfs drivers are so stuffed ie no write unless u dont value your data...
Can anyone shed some light?

Well, if you're curious enough grab the
RH and Mandy Kernel sources and compare
the branch of the directory tree with the ntfs
support in it :)
It [safe write support] can only be there if MDK
coded it, it's certainly still not recommended in the
Stock Kernel 2.4.21-rc1
well when running mandrake 9 it automounts your other drives and it worked flawlessly... wether mandrake is using the "experimental" ntfs driver i dont know but there was no warning and everything i wrote to the ntfs drive from mandrake worked, i was just curious if it was the same driver and how dangerous it really is to use the rh one..?
I can tell you from my experience that Mandy screwed up my C:; it was 8.x and said that it supports ntfs. I ended up loding my valuable data. Point to note is that it worked 'flawlessly' for a couple of days :-)
By default Mdk doesn't turn on NTFS write (my installation is 9.1) and u have to recompile the kernel with it. Just checked the config file. I have an NTFS partition and one vfat, which I use to keep common data between Linux and XP.
