Question Not able to create virtual disk in VirtualBox

Hi all, I've installed virtualbox with a lot of pain. Now when I'm trying to creata new virtual machine, I'm not able to do so . Let me explain it in detail. I've been using VMWare/MSVirtualServer etc[in XP though] for quite a long time. In VM its simple to create a new virtual system. You choose the type[linux/windows],memory , size of disk and i used to mount a live linux image[.iso] file and you are done, i hope the process is similar for VirtualBox in linux too. But when i'm trying to create a virtual disk[i tried with 250 MB only] the machine hangs[the disk LED glows continously] and its remains like that for around 20 mins, and at last i've to kill it from command line. one funny thing[may not be] i noticed is that when tried to see the process list, i found apt-get running as root, which i dint start by any means,is it anyway related to virtual sys creation process. and unluckily i could not reach the point where i'ld be pointing the liveCD OS as DSL image .iso file[ i'm trying this for testing purpose only]. Can anyone tell me what went wrong, or do I need to do some more config chages, by the way i've used all teh default settings only. Please help me as I'm stuck for some time just because this issue only. Thank you very much.
My sys configuration is as below
Fedora9 2.6.26.3.29-fc9.i686

I run vitualbox on PClinuxOS which is rpm based. After installing virtualbox, you should only have to start virtualbox and select new then it will start the wiz. hit next.
Make a name for the machine your making like wunxp and then dropdown menu to select os type. does not matter at this point could be your installing dsl so name it dsl and select linux 2.6 unless your try to run an old kernel. Next is the memory size not the drive size set the RAM you want to use 256 to 512 what ever but you need ram for the host . I have 1gig and can give windows 512 which is half. Now you make the drive, for an easy virtual drive select new next and the expending type it only uses the space it needs to start with. Now you see the name of the machine and pick the MAX size of the hard drive seggested is normally enough you can use a file share for data later. Then its just click click click and you will see you machine listed. Now set up the mechine.
General > Advanced I un click the floppy don't have one and move the list around for a cd then hd type boot order, this is your virtual BIOS boot order.

Hard disk you just made this is only for changes now

CDrom I select the virtual and browse to the iso rather then use the livecd it will install from it just fine, If its windows I used the dd command and made an iso of my OEM disk and do the same.

Now if you start that machine it will boot into the cd image or the real cd if thats what you choose and you should be installing. The rest you can set up from menus as you go. It should be just that easy with a linux host.
