I just installed unreal tournament 2003. The installation process took a few tries, but the posts here led me to relative success. unreal seems to be running fine in every respect except that i have *no* sound.
i tried configuring it under the 'audio' panel, but it still isn't working. what should i do?
I use fluxbox, so I tried booting to gnome and running it. There's still no trace of sound. I can of course, play other media, but not after I boot up ut2003. I assume this is because unreal keeps flooding the sound server, so it won't take any other requests. I don't really know though.
I'm just using the integrated sound that came on my motherboard b/c I only have two crappy stereo speakers anyway. I have a soundcard that I could install, but I'd need your help with which drivers to use with it.
Here's an error message that shows up on my console when I run ut2003:
$ Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0"
Any other ideas as to what could be going wrong? I'm going to try reinstalling ut2003 now also.
I reinstalled ut2003, but I still don't have any sound. I thought maybe my integrated sound wasn't supported, so I tried to install a new soundcard. I'll put a post up in the 'hardware' section about that, and hopeuflly this will all be sorted out.
i also have this problem after updating from 2199 to 2225, i read the changes to the audio section but cant see any reason why it would just stop working... i also use fluxbox, however it was working perfectly until i updated game version. i am pretty eager to fix this if anyone can help. also... for some instances using games (namely RTCW:ET) i had to chmod +rw /dev/dsp to allow me to use sound in game.. distro == slackware 9
help me people... im lost without my deathball :-/ if i find a solution i will post it here
well, doing a 'chmod' isn't really a safe solution. i've found that this is a common problem in games. it is better to add yourself to the group 'sys' in /etc/group
heh, i did that and reset the permissions about 1 hour after i posted that message... suddenly occured to me not to give the world access to my sound card :-) good point
Hey, I was having the same problem. I downloaded the new driver and now have sound, but unfortunately the sound is always about 2 seconds behind what is actually happening. Any ideas on how to get rid of this lag?
