Question no audio in xine/xmms

Hi everyone
I am recently facing a problem. I cant play audio in XMMS
When i play a audio file it says
Couldnt open audio
1. You have the correct output plugin selected.
2. No other program is blocking the soundcard.
3. Your Sound card is configured properly.

Though i have selected the correct output plugin eSound plugin for output.

No other program is playing any audio.

My sound card is configured properly since i can hear KDE exiting/logging in sounds.

In XINE if i play video then i can see the video but no audio

And if i play audio i can see the seek moving / seconds passing by

Spectrum analyzer showing as if something is playing but i hear no sound.

Please help me

re:canot play sound / how to play sound RHL 9.0 & F.C

HI there,

There is an easy instalation process of xmms . xmms is used to play MP3 files. There are many Mp3 player in FEDORA. But it is an audio player. The instalation process is as follows.
1. at first download rpm package . I prefare fresh rpm.net. site.
2. you can open directly or save in disk.
3. then right click over mouse .& open with instalation package.
4. give ur root passward.( if u r not in root).
5. then it cheack system status.
6. click continue.
then it will install.

you can perform this also in command mode.

1. open terminal .
2. type the following coomand , if u r not in root then type "su" & then give ur root passward
3. rpm -ivh newpackage.rpm (install specified package)
4. then it will install .

hope it is easier for newbie in linux/fedora

to see if esd is running type ps -A in the terminal. if you dont see it there you can type /etc/init.d/esd start, (i'm not sure if this works for redhat, different distros handle daemons differently) if that doesnt work theres a gui somewhere in one of the menus to start and stoip services. not sure where, its been so long since i used redhat but you should be able to find it easily in the menu.
