NIS login probs on debian

I'm having some problems setting up a nis server.
I've followed this guide (http://www.linux-nis.org/nis-howto/HOWTO/).
This is what I've done so far:

Client:

- installed the software
- modified the /etc/nsswitch.conf file.
hosts has now nif files and
netgroup has nis
- created /var/yp
- set the domain name
- ran all the tests in the nis howto, they turned out ok
- added +:::::: to /etc/passwd
- added +::: to /etc/group

Server:

- installed software
- /usr/lib/yp/ypinit -m
- ran /var/yp/make
...

well, pretty much everything that howto says.

Like I said, all checks turn out ok, but I can't log in.
Client simply says Login Incorrect.

Can someone give me some hints on what/where to troubleshoot please?

Thanks.

I just looked at /var/log/auth.log and it says:
"FAILED LOGIN (1) on 'tty3' FOR 'test', Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info.

that doc is outdated, /etc/nsswitch.conf should look like this:

passwd: files nis
group: files nis
shadow: files nis

cool, that did the trick, thanks.
But now I'm facing another problem:
only the users added with adduser can log in, those created with
useradd (most of them) can't.

check the uid's, the yp server will start at uid >= 1000 and maybe
your other users will have lower uid's.
