Newbie to Upgrading Kernels

I am running RH 7.0 with kernel 2.2.16-22. I was trying to upgrade to 2.4.20-1.

I thought I had all the dependencies but it keeps saying dependency failure. I used:

The newest:

mkinitrd
initscripts
core utils
mod utils

These are the dependencies that redhat shows on there web site.

I got these newest ones after installing the kernel it told me mine were to old. Then when I tried installing these they had more dependency failures and conflicts such as:

filesystem
glib
and many more.

The kernel also had conflicts with
ppp
kudzu
ezfsprogs
dev
iptables

I just think everytime I get new files it is going to keep up this vicious cycle.

Anybody that can give a ray of hope with this would greatly appreciated

Thanks

As an alternative to upgrading every rpm package in your system you could try compiling your own kernel. Download the source from www.kernel.org and try compiling your own.
