Newbie Need program for older HP computer

I'm very new to all of this and I've read about Mandrake Linux. My problem is this. I'm going to upgrade my computer but unable to do it right now. However, here's what I'm working with. HP 8180 Pavilion. Pent II processor, 6 Gig hard drive, 128 Ram. I'm currently using Win 98SE and I can't tell you how much I hate it.. I use the computer to search the internet and email. However I would like to use a Photo software for my digital pictures I take. I have a CD-RW. I'm currently using an Agere Win Modem if that helps. I also use a dial up.

I've seen all that is out there and I'm so confused about what to order. Is Mandrake Linux too large to put on my computer and if so, what other ones are easy to install and easy to use. If I understand this correctly, some of the others are like attachments to Mandrake...is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me...I'm trying really hard to learn all of this but there's a lot out there to work with and my brain is only so big.

Yes!

You could put Mandrake in your computer, for me the pro is:
- Mandrake is one of the best distribution in terms of hardware recognition,
- the install is self explained, and
- is easy to install packages thanks to <urpmi> (Mandrake Control Center).

Take care!

I don't know if your modem will be installed, many winmodem don't.

If you have any other question, fell free to ask!
