new Vista HP laptop, transferring files from Mandriva via firewire??

1. Can I transfer my music and personal files from Mandriva 2008 to a new HP Windows Vista laptop via a firewire cable?

2. How hard would it be to reformat my laptop so it has Vista and Linux?

I'm starting grad school in about a month and I'm working a lot of hours til then. In other words, I don't want to have to spend all my free time for the next 2 months getting this to work.

I have an external hard drive (Seagate) partially formatted for Linux, partially for Windows. Can I back up my linux ogg vorbis music files to the Windows Seagate external partition to import them to Windows Vista laptop? How?
