Need to change keyboard defined in Acer Linux on Netbook

I have just bought an Acer Aspire 1 - a tiny portable running their version of Linux (Lipsus or something) - in France.

I have defined the preferred language as English, and it has defaulted the keyboard layout to English also. I need to define the keyboard as a French layout (AZERTY rather than QWERTY), but want to retain the system language for help, etc as English. There is no System/Preferences/Keyboard option as in Ubuntu; so I want to find the Linux file to change to set the French keyboard layout. Any ideas?

I would think
loadkeys fr-latin1
would do the trick. Check out
