i have no boot.lnx, aren't you searching for the boot image, boot map, or something else in the /boot?
else download toms root boot disk ( http://www.toms.net/rb/ ) and mount your /dev/hda1 (i suppose) and try to fix your problem. you can also try to post some errormessages here and maybe i have an clearer view on what your trying to achieve or what your problem exactly is.

-cheers-

The only files I know that have similar names are boot.iso, which is the image of a bootable installation CD from SuSE and boot.ini, which is the windows file for the XP/NT bootloader menu.

What demands this file? Maybe you could explain in more detail where you stuck exactly.

well, i am not sure what you are looking for or what your problem is. @ the moment i am behind a SuSE box and i cant find anywere on this system a boot.lnx.

-i assume your linux isn't booting right now, did it work before?
is your bootloader ok?
else try what i said with tomsrootboot to install a new boot loader using lilo

let me know if it worked out or if you still keep problems

[edit]
aaah the former post was from a different person i didn't see that ... but hey it is still monday

Yes..

actually I'm stock in windows..
I installed SuSE Linux 9.1 on it's own partition, was working perfect on my laptop.. and last night, I installed Windows XP on a different partition..

when I boot the computer.. it goes directly to WinXP without giving me a menu to choose from..

Anyway, I'll get a Knoppix or Gentoo boot disk and try it on my laptop.. maybe I could run LILO and make it work again!

Thanks guys..

any more instructions, suggestions are welcome!

thanks again!
