hello, i wat to watch some of my movies and found i need a rpm to decrypt them so i can watch them. can somebody point me to the RPM that will let me watch my dvds

Download mplayer and all of its requirements.. its the best DVD player.. ignore what others say or recommend, its still tbe best.

if you install mplayer or xine, make sure, you also install libdvdcss because without it you won't be able to play the encrypted dvd's. some distros don't install it alongside mplayer or xine.

Yes, it's libdvdcss that you need. Make sure, though, that it is legal where you live (I don't know where "Dacula,GA" is). It is legal in Europe; it is not in the USA for example.
If you live somewhere where software patents are allowed, hence libdvdcss is not, then I'm sorry for you...

i live in the USA , Georgia. but i dont know why it wouldnt be legal to play my own bought dvds and watch them on my computer bc my computer is better than my other tv and HORRIBLE dvd player. i will download libdvdccs and install . i have mandrake so i already have mplayer

dont want to let anybody down .......... i KNOW mplayer is VERY VERY good but didnt work . i couldnt fin the movie. ...used xine and worked great

Try xine, and use Xine-ui for your Gui, it is very good program, get all the plugins and its excclent

The issue about libdvdcss is that it's illegal in America, because of Hollywood, patents etc, but in other countries, it can be linked to and downloaded legally. I bet a lot people in the Sates using Linux still use it though.

If I say that, it's because the USA have a great influence over the whole world. The more Holliwood gets its way, the more the whole world has to fight to keep its own freedom... In Europe, things are uncertain and the balance could shift in one or another direction in a matter of months!

I don't feel that DVD-burning is wrong, at all...
(I dont neccesarily do it, heh...)

Here's my logic:
The big-screen brings in most the cash.
Merchandising brings in a lot of cash,
directors and moviestars have nice cars and big houses,
I live in a small house with an old car...

Tada, the same goes for Music (replace "Big-screen" with "Concert").

The USA is so bent-on consumerism, it really pisses me off!

I took a trip to Canada about 3 mos ago, great place, much less $$$ oriented.

I have never heard of anyone in the US being prosecuted for using libdvdcss, or anything else to get around it. As long as you are buying legal copies of their movies I would think they should be happy.

Both Mplayer and Xine are good DVD players. However Mplayer does not support menus whereas Xine does. Also on a few movies I could not get Mplayer to play the movie, but Xine will play those movies just fine.
