need help with Gparted

Hi All,

I'm trying to re-size a partition on my disk using the liveCD version of Gparted and having some issues.

I'm trying to re-size an NTFS partition /dev/sda3 and increase its size. In the display it shows that I've got 14.77 GiB of unallocated space above it and 7.39 MiB below. When I select it and hit the resize/move tab though it states that there is 0 MiB of free space preceeding.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

We need the complete context for this. For example, is this a logical partition inside of an extended?

Is it possible that the "0 MB preceding" refers to what is going to happen after the change?

Note also that it is a good idea to de-frag NTFS partitions before re-sizing (and, of course, backup all important data)

I think I understand what you are getting at...

the /dev/sda3 doesn't look like it is inside another partition but the space above it appears to be. Maybe that is my problem. The unallocated space looks like it is inside /dev/sda4 which is above /dev/sda3 in the table. Any idea how I can move the unallocated space out?

OK, it looks like I can simplify the question to "how do I move unallocated space out of an extended partition?"

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

OK, figured it out. I just resized the entire extended partition and freed up the space.
