nas software with zero configurationa and remote control capability as gpu is dead
hi guys
new to this forum
i wonder if there is any linux nas that basically minimal configuration (insert disc) and it installs and then it has some sort of remote desktop capability by default ON
so that i know what IP it gets and remote to control it for further customization
i know i might have to custom that linux alone for that but just wonder if there is already anything out there ?
my laptop GPU is totally dead yet CPU and all other components are alive
i just feel like it is such a waste and thinking of using it as network storage

Pretty much any live-CD version of Linux will do this, and come up at least on the network. From there, you should be able to SSH into it, and set up VNC from there.
you may also want to look into FreeNAS. Did some quick searching and you can do a installation of it without a monitor. Also after the basic installation everything else is done via a web interface.
You'd have to make a special live cd that has freenx or vnc or even telnet ssh or such enabled on boot. Most distros live cd's might be hardened but you can easily try them on a working system. Even if you have to type blind on power up might work.
Most of the people look to knoppix documentation to roll your own. Then the Puppy crowd seems to add on while Fedora and others kind of go their own. Might also look at gentoo info. Knoppix I think would be the fastest but browse the topics that are related to customize live cd or create live cd or such.
If you want to try it blind boot to a good system and try it that way but it is hard. I have done it before and you never know what is going on.
Also live working might reveal it is open but I kind of doubt it but since you have test try it.
