also there are a couple of types...
name server and/or caching nameserver??
how many zones do you wish to serve?
which dns server do you wish to run?? there are a few - most popular being bind or tinydns/djbdns. many questions to answer before you can go ahead and start.
you need to do a bit of research my friend
