MythTv in HD?

so i've been kicking around the idea of replacing my dvr with a mythtv box. i'll be dedicating my current desktop for the purpose (athlon 1.4gig, 160 gig hd, 256 mb ram). before i even get into which type of capture/tuner card i need, seems there may be a more basic problem. can i even record the hdtv that i want? i know i can get it OTA, and i'm kinda intrigued by lyngsat, but really i'll need an hd/digital output from my cable/sat provider. which i don't think exists, does it? am i missing something here, or am i SOL?

From my limited knowledge:

HD signals from your cable or satellite provider are most likely encrypted.
There may be a fireware port on the digital box that you may be able to use for output.
Your hardware isn't "strong" enough to playback HD content.

I would recommend browsing the mythtv forums w/r/t HD and I think all your questions will be answered.
