Question MYSQL /etc/hosts why?

I have redhat 8 installed with mysql from the redhat CD

I need to put connecting computers names and ip address in the /etc/hosts file before that can connect to mySQL. why? Is there a way around this?

um... try allowing mysqld in your /etc/hosts.allow file

you just need a line that says:

mysqld : ALL

then restart xinetd by typing /sbin/service xinetd restart

Found this in RedHat bug reports...

In etc/my.cnf file add following line under [mysqld] options.

set-variable=thread_stack=256k

Try connecting. Should work after the 3rd attempt.
