mysql and mandrake 9.2

Hi, I recently reinstalled mandrake on a pc and i want to use mysql and i was wondering how to do this and if my username and password is same as root or not. I have downloaded and installed mysql administrator and control center and i cant seem to do much when logged in with my user account and i cant login with root. any help will be appreciated thanks

your system username and password dont have to do anything with mysql user registration. u have to start the mysqld server first before u can access it, change/add users and change passwords. take a good look at the documentation...
